DILIGENCE IS KEY

Exam

01
SAT & ACT

If you’ve been exposed to American film and pop culture, you may have heard of the SAT. The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and ACT (American College Testing) are among the most popular standardized tests students take to show knowledge in math, writing, and science. Most US universities require you to submit your scores as part of your application, with some universities making it optional – we still encourage you to submit your scores, nonetheless.

02
TOEFL & IELTS

Unless you are a native English speaker, you have to take language exams to prove your proficiency in English. The most common language exams are TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)  and IELTS (International English Language Testing System), which test your ability to read, listen, speak, and write in English. The test scores are valid for a limited period of time, so make sure your scores are still valid at the time you apply to US universities.

03
Extracurriculars

Aside from academic excellence, US universities care about how you spend your time outside of school. Extracurricular activities add dimension to your application and it is important the activities you engage in fall at least into these three categories:
1. Community-Oriented Activities
2. Personal Projects
3. Leadership Activities

You are encouraged to diversify your extracurricular activities while ensuring your main interests are reflected. Showing that you have persistently engaged in activities related to your interests demonstrates your passion to the Admissions Officer.

04

Common App

The hardest part of the US college application process is having to write your life story and demonstrate why you are the perfect candidate in no more than 600 words. Since most universities require the Common App essay, it becomes the first impression you make and a key factor in whether your application advances. How can you sum up your entire life in a 600-word essay? We’ve got your back!

Letters of Recommendation

How can you demonstrate your academic ability, work ethic, and character apart from extracurricular activities, transcripts, and standardized test scores? Let us introduce you to letters of recommendation, letters which are typically written by teachers, counselors, or employees of organizations you’ve worked in. Remember to choose recommenders who know you well and can craft detailed writings about your potential and skills.

06

Financial Aid Forms

Attending a US University can be very costly unless you’ve won the lottery. You have the option to apply for financial aid, through portals such as CSS or FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), which can help decrease the amount you have to pay for college based on your financial needs. In order to apply for financial aid, you need to collect and provide some forms to demonstrate your financial needs.
